A former Governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo, has said that unemployment is the biggest problem facing the South East region.
Naija News reports that Nwodo made the disclosure while speaking on a Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, on Monday.
The former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) added that another problem confronting the region is the absence of sincere conversation with the youths.
Nwodo advised various state governments in the zone to invite young people for dialogue and create job opportunities in order to keep them busy.
The former governor added that the youths in the South-East feel marginalised by both the federal and state governments, asking the authorities to do the needful.
He stated the leaders in the region lack the political will to implement blueprints recommended by different committees to end the crisis in the zone.
Nwodo said: “The biggest problem we have is unemployment. Massive unemployment even of graduates.
“The second thing is the absence of sincere dialogue with the young people. Apart from the fact that they have no jobs, they feel extremely marginalised.
“We have had a set of committees in the past and we have a current one led by Prof Ogbu.
“They have produced a beautiful blueprint where they can take us to the point where we become the Dubai of West Africa. But we haven’t gotten the political will of the leaders in the zone to implement that blueprint.”
