Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has joined President Muhammadu Buhari in saying that people calling for the country’s break-up do not know what they are talking about.

Naija News reports that the former Emir of Kano made the statement in Lagos on Tuesday at an event.

Buhari had a few months ago while reacting to activities of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, said his government will treat those troubling the country in the language they understand.

Sanusi expressed hopes for one Nigeria, noting that all citizens have to work towards keeping the country together. According to him, should there be any complaint about the state of the nation, then ‘it is because we love Nigeria and hopefully we will not just complain’.

The economist disapproved in totality secessionists’ calls for Nigeria to go separate ways.

Sanusi insisted that Nigeria has more to gain staying together as one, admonishing Nigerians to, in their little way, help address the socio-economic challenges, facing the country.

He urged people to stop looking up to the government to “solve our problems,” but join hands to help the government in solving some of its challenges.

He said: “I hope that my story and the story of many of us here is one that we will be used to continue stressing that those who say they want to break up this country do not know what they are talking about.

“We have to keep this country together and if we complain about it, it is because we love Nigeria and hopefully we will not just complain.

“Hopefully we will join hands together with those who are on this very difficult path to make Nigeria great.

“I honestly do not know what you are looking for seeking the country to secede,” he added.
