English Premier League on Thursday postponed the clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton scheduled for Sunday.

The match was cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the north London club.

Naija News had earlier reported that the club manager, Antonio Conte, on Wednesday confirmed that eight players and five staff members have tested positive for Coronavirus.

The development saw UEFA cancel their match against Rennes in the Europa tournament on Thursday.

A statement released by the club confirmed that the weekend’s fixture at Brighton will also not go ahead.

The statement reads in part, “We can confirm that our Premier League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion, on Sunday 12 December at 2 pm, has been postponed following a Premier League Board meeting this afternoon.

“The Premier League Board took the decision to postpone the game following guidance from medical advisers, with the health of players and staff the priority. The fixture will be rescheduled in due course.”
