For the first time under the watch of coach Mauricio Pochettino, Enzo Fernandez who is one of the most expensive players at Stamford Bridge, didn’t play for Chelsea in the Premier League.
Recall that Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea on January 31, 2023, about a month after helping Argentina to win the 2022 FIFA World in Qatar. The West London side was so interested in him that they broke their then-club record, and broke the then Premier League transfer record, as they paid a whopping €121 million for his services.
Due to the heavy sum of money the club’s owners, Todd Boehly and his consortium paid for his services, the 22-year-old Argentine centre-midfielder has never missed a Premier League game before the Brentford’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 28.
Why Enzo Fernandez Didn’t Play against Brentford?
Before the Brentford game, Chelsea’s coach, Pochettino confirmed that Enzo Fernandez and Ukrainian winger, Mykhailo Mudryk, didn’t make his squad for the game against Brentford because of an injury scare.
“We hoped they would be okay to be in the squad, but unfortunately, they aren’t quite ready”, the coach to Chelsea’s official website.
“Neither of them is a big issue, but we didn’t want to take any risks.”
The two players are expected to return to the squad when Chelsea take on Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup third round at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1.
Meanwhile, on Friday, October 26, a day before Chelsea took on Brentford, Enzo took to his Instagram page to announce the birth of his second child, Benjamin.
Benjamin is Enzo’s first son and second child as the footballer and his girlfriend, Valentina Cervantes came to Chelsea with a three-year-old daughter named Olivia.
