Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn has confirmed that serious talks are underway for a possible showdown between Anthony Joshua and YouTube star-turned-boxer, Jake Paul.
The potential Anthony Joshua Vs Jake Paul heavyweight bout has reportedly gotten the backing of Saudi Arabia’s entertainment chief, Turki Alalshikh.
The unexpected twist came during the Ring III official weigh-in, where Hearn spoke to Boxing News and revealed the latest developments behind the scenes.
“After speaking to His Excellency last night… in this mad world that we live in, I wouldn’t be surprised,” Hearn said.
Once considered a laughable fantasy cooked up by internet trolls and clickbait headlines, the fight now appears to have some real legs, thanks to Jake Paul’s relentless call-outs and Joshua’s apparent openness to making it happen.
Back in March, Paul boldly claimed he would knock out Joshua, a statement many brushed off as mere bravado. But then came the shocker: Paul revealed in April that Joshua had privately reached out to him.
And now? Hearn says the world might just get what it wants.
“Our focus is to fight Tyson Fury, but (Joshua) needs a fight before then. If that’s Jake Paul and if you guys want that fight, I know the numbers would be massive, the world would want to see it,” Hearn explained.
He added: “I spoke to AJ about it, and he said, ‘If you want me to flatten Jake Paul, I’ll do it.’ And I know there will be a lot of happy people, but that’s what Mr Paul dines off.”
Joshua, who hasn’t stepped back into the ring since his stunning defeat to Daniel Dubois earlier this year, is still eyeing a mega-fight with Tyson Fury. But according to Hearn, a tune-up bout is necessary, and Jake Paul, against all odds, might be the man standing across from him.
