Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has rewarded Munachi Ejiofor, a forward of the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with a cash gift of ₦30 million and a duplex in Abakaliki for her outstanding contribution to Nigeria’s triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.
Munachi Ejiofor, who played a key role as the Nigerian women’s basketball team clinched a record-extending fifth consecutive AfroBasket title in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this month, was also inducted into the Ebonyi State Hall of Fame.
The governor’s gesture comes shortly after the Nigerian women’s basketball team, led by coach Rena Wakama, received national honours from President Bola Tinubu. Each squad member was gifted $100,000, a furnished apartment, and a national award.
Meanwhile, in domestic football, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Wikki Tourists have confirmed the signing of midfielder Naziru Auwalu on a free transfer.
Auwalu, who recently parted ways with Kano Pillars at the end of his contract, penned a two-year deal with the Bauchi-based club and is expected to be a central figure in Abdullahi Maikaba’s midfield setup during the forthcoming 2025-2026 NPFL campaign.
The experienced playmaker will make his debut when Wikki Tourists host Plateau United in their opening NPFL fixture on Friday, August 22, in Bauchi.
