The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Naija News reports that the development affected four commissioners as the Governor also issued a stern warning to underperforming appointees to shape up or be shown the door.
The cabinet reshuffle was announced on Tuesday by the new Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, during a post-State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting press briefing held in Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru, during the meeting, gave a three-month ultimatum to the Commissioner for Environment, Victor Chukwu, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka, warning that failure to deliver on their mandates would result in their removal from office.
“This administration is guided by the People’s Charter of Needs, and there is no room for complacency. Appointees must align with the vision or make way for others who will,” Omebe quoted the governor as saying.
Cabinet Reshuffle Changes
Naija News understands that Engr. Jude Chikadibia Okpor was moved from Commissioner for Information and State Orientation to Commissioner for Rural Development.
Ikeuwa Omebe swapped positions with Okpor, moving from Rural Development to Information and State Orientation, while Prof. Paul Awo Nwobasi was reassigned from Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary) to Border Peace and Conflict Resolution
Donatus Ilang moved in the opposite direction, from Border Peace and Conflict Resolution to Education (Primary and Secondary)
Governor Nwifuru charged all commissioners to evaluate their performance and renew their commitment to the administration’s development agenda.
As part of its broader industrialisation plan, the State Executive Council approved the supply and installation of Independent Captive Power Generation Plants to ensure 24-hour electricity for selected public and private industries.
The project will kick off with a three-megawatt plant at ICT University, located in Oferekpe, Agbaja.
Omebe noted that the initiative aims to boost productivity, attract investors, and enhance energy reliability in key sectors of the state’s economy.
In a related development, the Council also ratified the constitution of a 15-member Ebonyi State Economic Advisory Committee, a move seen as part of the administration’s efforts to reposition the state’s economy.
The committee will be chaired by renowned engineer and former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, with Dr. Ben Odoh serving as Secretary.
The committee’s mandate will include providing policy direction, advising on economic reforms, and helping to structure initiatives that align with the state’s development vision.
Governor Nwifuru, while addressing the cabinet, urged his appointees to take their roles seriously and remain aligned with the expectations of the people.
“All appointees must reflect on their level of performance so far and recommit themselves to the People’s Charter of Needs, which remains the benchmark for all policy direction and government action in the state,” he stressed.
The governor added that his administration remains focused on good governance, infrastructure development, and economic transformation, warning that “only results will be rewarded.”
