A graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Ogun State who worked as a gambling agent has been reportedly shot dead allegedly by a police officer in the Imala region of Abeokuta, the capital of the state.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, has confirmed the tragic incident involving the middle-aged individual.
According to Odutola, everyone involved in the tragic incident has been summoned for questioning as part of the inquiry.
Naija News learnt that the deceased, Anuoluwapo, ran a Bet9ja outlet near a well-known hotel in the vicinity and was about to close for the day when he was fatally shot.
There were also claims that the police officers involved were under the influence of alcohol before one of them fired the fatal shot.
Another account from a witness indicated that the officers were conducting a search or pursuing a suspect when they accidentally killed Anuoluwapo, who was known by the nickname Pepe.
It was also noted that the officers quickly fled into the hotel and requested additional support to help them get away from the crime scene.
The witnesses also shared that the officers and the reinforcements intermittently fired their weapons to facilitate their escape.
In response to the incident, the spokesperson stated that the state’s police commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, has contacted all relevant parties to initiate an investigation.
“We have the information that one Aanu was a victim. It is not easy to say exactly what happened but the Commissioner of Police is in touch with the stakeholders. He has called everybody involved so that we can start investigating,” Channels Television quoted Odutola saying in a report on Saturday.
