Manchester City’s Erling Haaland expressed his amusement at Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella’s chants against him.
Recall that after Marc Cucurella helped Spain win Euro 2024 in Germany, the Spanish defender celebrated by chanting that Erling Haaland should be scared of him.
The lyrics of the chant go thus: “Cucu cucu-rella, he eats paella, Cucu cucu-rella he drinks Estrella, Haaland you’d better tremble because Cucurella is coming!.”
About a month after singing the song, the Spanish defender met with Haaland in Chelsea’s 2024-2025 Premier League opener against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18.
During the game, Cucurella was seen lying on the pitch with cramps and needed Haaland to assist him to get back on his feet. But the Norwegian striker walked by without extending a helping hand to him.
Also, Haaland scored the match opener against Chelsea with Cucurella failing to stop him.
After the 2-0 win over Chelsea, Haaland told reporters that he found it ironic that Cucurella had asked for his shirt last season and then made teasing remarks about him in a song during Spain’s Euro 2024 victory celebrations.
Haaland described Cucurella as a “funny man” and took the comments in good humour.
Haaland said: “Well, Cucurella is a funny man. Last season, he asked for my shirt … and this summer, he sings a song about me”.
