Football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, has made an unexpected diplomatic gesture, appealing for peace amid growing tensions between Israel and Iran.
The Portuguese superstar sent a signed national team jersey to United States President, Donald Trump, with a clear message written on the back: “To President Donald J. Trump. Playing for peace.”
The personalised gift was delivered to Trump by European Council head and Portuguese politician, Antonio Costa, during the ongoing G7 summit in Canada.
A photo released from the meeting shows Trump and Costa posing with the Portugal shirt, the bold peace message prominently displayed.
The symbolic gesture comes as global leaders scramble to defuse the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
Trump, who left the G7 summit early, has positioned himself at the heart of diplomatic efforts, declaring on social media: “We will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place.”
In remarks to reporters, Trump hinted at aggressive diplomacy: “I’m not looking for a ceasefire, we’re looking at better than a ceasefire.”
He also issued a stern ultimatum, giving Iran two days to bring a “real end” to its nuclear ambitions. “You’re going to find out over the next two days,” he warned, without elaborating further.
