The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced the birth of their second child. Much awaited for some time now, the little princess has joined us in this world.
Among those who predicted the name of the baby while she was still in her mother’s womb, are somewhat right, since the little champion is now called Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, and “Lili”, as a kind of pretty name derived from Lilibet.
Naija News understands that the royal couple has just paid a tribute to both Queen Elizabeth II and the late Princess Diana with the child’s name since Lilibet is the nickname of the queen’s family.
“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” read a statement on behalf of the Sussexes’ press secretary. “Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.”
Lilibet, eighth to the British throne
As for the name, Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales, who tragically died in August 1997 in a car crash.
Meghan and Harry, who currently reside in a $14 million mansion in Montecito, Calif., With their son Archie, 2, confirmed in February that they were expecting a child.
