Chelsea have officially submitted a transfer deal for the signature of Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen.
This is coming after months of speculations linking Victor Osimhen to a high-profile move to the Premier League club this summer following his decision to leave Napoli.
According to transfer expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have submitted an official bid to Victor Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda. Formal talks with Napoli commenced on Wednesday, August 28.
It remains to be seen whether all parties can reach an agreement before the August 31 transfer deadline.
Chelsea are eager to add a quality striker before the transfer window closes and have identified Brentford’s Ivan Toney as an alternative if they fail to secure Osimhen’s signature.
Osimhen has been a consistent standout performer for Napoli since joining from Lille in 2020, scoring 76 goals in 133 appearances over the past three seasons. He was also recently named African Footballer of the Year and finished eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Despite reported interest from Al-Ahli with a €70 million offer, Osimhen remains focused on continuing his career in Europe. His current Napoli contract, which includes a €130m release clause, runs until June 2026.
Chelsea faces competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Osimhen’s signature, as the French champions had previously reached a preliminary agreement with the striker earlier this summer.
On the other hand, Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku is close to completing his move to the former Serie A champions, Napoli. The Belgian striker underwent a medical in Naples on Wednesday before signing the contract papers.
