A wedding event reportedly ended abruptly in Delta State on Thursday after unknown gunmen shot dead the groom.
It was unclear who sponsored the heinous act but reports obtained by Naija News on Friday confirmed the Groom’s little son was also killed in the attack.
The sad event reportedly happened in Udu, a community in the Udu Local Government Area of Delta.
People were still in merriment at old Ekete road, opposite Ghawan junction at about 6:00 pm in the evening when the assailants arrived and disrupted the event after shooting the groom.
The groom according to reports, had earlier in the day concluded his traditional marriage and people were still around when the gunmen arrived and killed him.
Naija News understands that the incident scared traders, shop owners and residents away as some fled the area for fear of reprisal attacks.
The ugly situation was reported to the Ovwian Police Division for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the two corpses were said to have been deposited in an undisclosed morgue in Udu town.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, was not on the ground at the time to confirm the incident.
This is coming barely a week after a 24-year-old intending groom, Chukwuka Igbonekwu died.
The deceased according to reports, drank sniper insecticide in Delta State.
According to Punch Metro, the deceased’s traditional wedding was slated for Tuesday, April 19, and Wednesday, April 20, 2022, respectively, according to his wedding card.
The incident occurred at Dr. Ambrose Okereke street, behind Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
A source told the publication that the deceased died after meeting up with his girlfriend identified as Adaeze. The source also alleged that the soon-to-be-groom had told his Adaeze that he was leaving her to marry another woman.
