Eight UEFA Champions League group stage games went down this evening, October 3, and as expected, it was filled with twists and turns.
The Champions League night kicked off at the Olympiastadion Berlin where Union Berlin suffered a 2-3 defeat at the hands of their visitors Braga.
During the same period, Real Sociedad beat their hosts RB Salzburg 0-2 at the Red Bull Arena Salzburg courtesy of goals from Mikel Oyarzabal, and Brais Méndez.
In the late-night fixtures, there were more unprecedented dramas across all the match venues especially at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona where Real Madrid had to come from a goal down to beat Napoli 3-2, thanks to goals from Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and an own goal from Italian goalkeeper Alex Meret.
Nigerian winger, Victor Osimhen almost gifted Napoli an edge in the game but Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, Kepa, saved Osimhen’s fine header in the second half.
At Old Trafford, Turkish club, Galatasaray, came from behind to beat Manchester United 3-2 after Casemiro received Red in the 77th minute. Interestingly, Wilfried Zaha who was rejected at Manchester United came back to haunt his former club in his first Champions League game in England since he left Crystal Palace for Turkey in last summer’s transfer window.
At the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, Arsenal were not able to maintain their 14th-minute goal from Gabriel Jesus as they ended up falling 2-1 to Lens courtesy of goals from Adrien Thomasson, and Elye Wahi.
