The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina, ahead of his burial.

Buhari’s body, draped in the Nigerian flag, was brought down from the Nigerian Air Force aircraft by officials of the Nigerian Military at the airport.

Naija News reports that Buhari’s body was airlifted by the Nigerian presidential aircraft in London on Tuesday morning.

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and some family members of the late former President accompanied the body.

Also, the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda and members of the Katsina State Executive Council, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibril, among other dignitaries, were on the ground to receive the corpse alongside some family members of the late former President.

Buhari’s remains will be taken to Daura, where he will be buried after receiving a military farewell.

Meanwhile, the nephew of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Mamman Daura, has revealed that the Nigerian leader was in high spirits just hours before his death on Sunday in London.

Speaking in an interview with ThisDay, Daura recounted his last moments with Buhari at the London Clinic, where the 82-year-old had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Daura said he spent Saturday evening with the late President, who appeared full of life and hopeful about returning to Nigeria within the week.

“We were together on Saturday, talking and laughing, and Buhari was in high spirits in the London Clinic where he was admitted,” Daura recalled.

He disclosed that Buhari had made plans for his return, including giving instructions regarding hotel bills for members of his entourage in London.
