[BREAKING] Yelwata: Tension As Gunmen Shot Scores In Fresh Benue Attack

Tension has enveloped the Yelwata community in Benue State after gunmen reportedly launched another deadly attack in the early hours of Monday, August 11.

Naija News learnt that the renewed assault prompted local women to stage a protest, blocking roads and demanding the withdrawal of soldiers stationed in the area to their barracks.

The aggrieved residents reportedly insisted on being evacuated to Makurdi, the state capital, saying they no longer feel safe in their homes.

“They should take us to Makurdi because the government cannot protect us,” Daily Post quoted one of the protesters lamenting.

Naija News reports that Monday’s incident comes less than two months after a June 13 night attack, allegedly carried out by armed herders, left about 200 people dead in the same community, including internally displaced persons.

Many victims were reportedly burned alive in that attack, which shocked the nation and drew widespread condemnation.

However, authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident at the time of filing this report.
