Vice President, Kashim Shettima paid a condolence visit to the widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, in London, United Kingdom, on Monday, as arrangements continue for the repatriation of the late leader’s remains to Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Shettima, who arrived in London earlier in the day on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, also visited Mamman Daura, Buhari’s influential nephew, who is currently receiving treatment at a London hospital.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed the visits in a statement titled “VP Shettima Pays Condolence Visit To Buhari’s Family In London.”

Nkwocha explained that the visits were conducted while Shettima and the federal delegation await the completion of formalities and documentation required to fly Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.

Vice President Shettima was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hadejia.

They were received at the airport by Nigerian officials in the UK, including Tuggar and Zulum, who were already in the country.

Naija News had earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu announced the passing of his predecessor on Sunday, confirming that Buhari died at approximately 4:30 pm in a London clinic after a prolonged illness.

In honour of the former president, Tinubu ordered national flags to be flown at half-staff and directed Vice President Shettima and Gbajabiamila to lead the government’s effort to retrieve Buhari’s remains.

According to Islamic tradition, Muhammadu Buhari will be buried on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.
