The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced collating the results of the governorship election held in Edo State on Saturday.
Prof Rhoda Gumus, INEC National Commissioner in charge of the election; Dr Anugbum Omuoha, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC); State Returning Officer, Prof Faruk Adams Kuta, and other key officials are all seated.
In his opening remarks at the collation centre, Omuoha vowed that nothing would make the commission fail the Edo people during the ongoing governorship election process.
He said the people’s will would be reflected in the end, calling for patience and understanding.
The major candidates in the gubernatorial election are Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.
The 18 Local Government Areas In Edo State includes Akoko-Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North-East, Esan South-East, Esan West, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Etsako West, Igueben, Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo, Orhionmwon, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West, Owan East, Owan West, Uhunmwonde.
