A group of friends led by Aree Olumiyiwa Akinboro on Thursday purchased the Peoples Democratic Party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State to contest in the forthcoming presidential election.
The form was purchased a few days after the main opposition party pegged its presidential form for ₦40 million.
The National organising secretary of the party, Bature, while handing over the forms and other documents to the group noted that due process was followed in the sale of the form.
Akinboro while speaking on behalf of the group said the form was purchased by concerned Nigerians who are worried about the state of things in the country and want Tambuwal to lead the country.
He said, “Tambuwal is someone we have all known for 30 years and nothing has changed about him. He’s humble, focused and intelligent. People ask if he has the money to pursue this ambition. That is why we are here to buy this form for him. He’s not aware but we as professional and apolitical, we want him to lead.”
While speaking on PDP’s plan to zone its presidential ticket, he charged the party to present her best candidate and focus on zoning after the election.
Akinboro further stated, “As regards zoning, we believe Tambuwal is a native of Nigeria and this is someone who is at home in all parts of the nation. Just look at us, we have Yoruba, Igbo, Ibibio, and we are saying, PDP, put your best foot forward. You can see there are no money bags here, but the little we have, we will use for him.
“PDP, you have a good chance to win this election. This election will be decided by simple Nigerians and we are part of that simple Nigerians.”
