Prominent activist lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, has called for serious attention to be given to recent allegations involving popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.
Idam emphasized that the situation should be treated as a matter of national importance, without turning Bobrisky or VeryDarkMan into scapegoats.
Naija News reports that the controversy began when VeryDarkMan released a leaked audio clip in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have paid officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a ₦15 million bribe to have money laundering charges against him dropped.
In the recording, Bobrisky also claimed that, despite being sentenced to six months in Kirikiri prison, he never served his time.
Instead, he alleges that a powerful benefactor arranged for him to stay in a lodge during the supposed prison term.
Speaking to DAILY POST, Idam said, “By the audio leakage, the image of Nigeria is now under trial, the entire criminal justice administration in Nigeria is under trial.
“The audio making the rounds as reported by the Facebook Activist Verydarkman, suggests that some class of convicts are permitted to spend their imprisonment in a decent apartment other than the custodian centers where they are ordered to be kept.
“This allegation must be treated as a serious National issue without making Bobrisky or Verydarkman a scapegoat.
“In order to unravel the truth, Bobrisky must be treated like a new bride, assured of security and safety and encouraged to name and shame everyone involved in the allegation. Otherwise, he will deny the allegations and the matter will slide.
“We need to know the facts about where he spent his term of imprisonment and how many counts he was supposed to be charged with and who received the money to drop some of his charges.”
