Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has gifted 35 brand-new motorcycles and ₦17.5 million to players of Barau FC following their promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The reception, held in Kano on Tuesday, brought together players, management, and football enthusiasts to celebrate the club’s rapid rise through the ranks.

Barau FC, founded by the senator representing Kano North, sealed their spot in the NPFL for the first time last month after a decisive 2-0 victory over Doma United in their final playoff clash.

Each of the 35 players received a motorcycle alongside ₦500,000 in cash, a gesture Jibrin described as both a reward and motivation.

“There is no doubt the club have witnessed a remarkable achievement within a short period. From academy to NLO, from NLO to NNL and from there to this great milestone of the Premier League. Your success is a victory for the Nigerian youth. We can’t thank you enough,” the lawmaker said in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.

Highlighting the economic opportunities football offers, Jibrin added: “Nowadays, football is not just a game, but a means of earning a living. We want to take you to the international stage. That is my goal. Some of you may like to play for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and other international clubs. We have created this platform for you to excel in soccer.”

The event also marked the official unveiling of the club’s new head coach, Ladan Bosso, whom Jibrin described as “the best,” alongside a squad reinforced by 25 fresh signings, including players from outside Nigeria.

“Our new signings are the best in the Nigeria Football League. Some of them are not even from Nigeria. So we have already gone continental,” he said.

Barau FC are already preparing for the new season, starting with a pre-season friendly against El-Kanemi Warriors on Wednesday. Their first NPFL challenge will be a high-profile home fixture against nine-time champions Enyimba at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
