Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly whisked away at least two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a publication on Friday, popular counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama stated that sources confirmed the victims, identified as Orasuur Oliver Orseer of Jato-Aka and Orwese David James, were serving at the Immigration Forward Operations Base in Adikpo.

Naija News understands that the Immigration officers were deployed to a border checkpoint in Ugbema, Buruku LGA, on September 10.

According to sources, the officers were returning from duty on a motorcycle when they were waylaid.

“After they closed from duty, the officers travelled on their motorcycle to Zaki-Biam, Ukum LGA. On their way back, they were intercepted and abducted by suspected local bandits to an unknown destination,” one of the sources reportedly said.

The incident was later reported to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kwande by another immigration officer, Shiekaa Yosev, on September 18.

Security sources have disclosed that anti-kidnapping and tactical teams have since been mobilised to track the suspects and rescue the abducted officers.

“Efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects for possible arrest, while investigation continues,” the source added.
