Residents of Magama Local Government Area of Niger State were left in mourning on Tuesday evening after bandit terrorists killed seven people in an attack.
The daylight attack claimed the life of a Divisional Police Officer of Nasko, including two other policemen, Naija News reports.
The terrorists are said to have invaded Nasko around 1 pm today but were repelled by a joint security force comprising of police, Military personnel and local vigilantes.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.
According to Abiodun, two other policemen, and four vigilante members were killed during the gun battle.
Abiodun said, “On 15/03/2022 at about 1300hrs, armed bandits/terrorists invaded Nasko village, Magama LGA of Niger State.
“Police operatives with vigilante members were immediately mobilized by DPO Nasko and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle in which some the hoodlums were neutralised and others escaped with gunshot injuries. Unfortunately, during the gun battle, the DPO, two other policemen, and four vigilante members lost their lives.”
The command condoled with the families of officers and vigilante members who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.
Naija News understands that many communities in Niger State have been taken over by bandits.
Residents of the state have lamented the incessant attacks and are calling on the government at federal and state level to come to their aide.
A resident of the community, AB Gamba who shared photos of the security agents killed today by bandits, appeal to the government, stating that their safety is important.
He wrote: “Our society is in Need of serious security attention.
“Today the contemporary calamity of Banditary activities has befalling my Land again. Magama local government in need of of help, 10 security agents gun down, and DPO magama local govt.
Pls government Our lives are precious protect us as you promised during the oath of office you took.
“If you remain mute at this point of Need, definitely vengeance time must come. Magama is important to us. Protect us before it’s too late.”
