Nigerian music star Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has revealed the story behind a photo she took during her first appearance at the Met Gala.
Naija News reports that the 23-year-old singer, who attended the 2025 edition of the popular fashion event in New York, explained that one of her most talked-about pictures was taken in the bathroom with American singer Coco Jones and another R&B artiste.
She described the moment as a fun one, saying that despite being in the photo with Tems, who is also African, she playfully saw herself as the first African to snap a bathroom selfie at the Met Gala.
“First African to take a bathroom selfie at the MET Gala, period!,” she said.
Ayra Starr was among several African celebrities who graced the Met Gala red carpet on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Others in attendance included Burna Boy, Tems, South African singer Tyla, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and fashion stylist Swanky Jerry.
