Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the murder of Olajide, the younger brother of Sahara Reporters Publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
Naija News earlier reported that Sowore had announced that his younger brother was shot dead near Okada town in Edo State on Saturday morning.
According to the former presidential candidate, Olajide was coming back from school (Igbinedion University), where he is studying Pharmacy.
Reacting in a statement via his social media page on Saturday, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, condemned the gruesome murder of the student.
Atiku stated that Sowore’s killing and indeed the killings and daily abductions of innocent citizens across the country saddens him.
The PDP stalwart, however, sent condolences to the Sowore Family and his friends, asking God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
He wrote: “I just received news of the reported killing of Mr Olajide Sowore, a student of Igbinedion University and the immediate younger brother of human rights activist, @YeleSowore. His death, and indeed the killings and daily abductions of innocent citizens, saddens me.
“Every death diminishes our humanity. My sincere condolences to the Sowore family and his friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says nothing can stop the Muhammadu Buhari government from regulating social media.
Mohammed made this known on Saturday during the 64th conference of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), in Sal Island, Cape Verde.
According to the minister, social media has become a major tool for propagating fake news and a weapon to attack Buhari and government officials.
The minister disclosed that the regulation of social media will curb the spread of fake news and attack on Nigerian leaders and government functionaries.
Mohammed stated that the country has moved from ordinary fake news to ”deep” fake news, which is now used to discredit some public servants and the federal government’s achievements.
