A former Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ussiju Medaner, has stated that former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, does not know how to win an election.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television on Friday Morning, he described Atiku as someone who only knows how to get a presidential ticket.
Medaner claimed that Atiku does not have people who can help him win the election.
He was responding to the question about the recent claim by some leaders of the APC that the opposition on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was only making noise.
He said: “If you look at some of the opposition activities, it’s just making noise. They are not putting their house in order. Election is not just making noise. Election is thinking.
“Some of the opposition, like Atiku Abubakar, he knows how to get ticket but he doesn’t have those people that can win general election.
“I was in CPC and supported Buhari but we didn’t have those that could win the election, that was the problem. I think you need to have those who can win the election.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Adetokunbo Pearse, has predicted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will emerge as the flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 presidential election.
Addressing journalists about the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Atiku, Pearse said the move does not threaten the PDP in any way.
He accused the former PDP presidential candidate of damaging his own political brand.
However, Pearse acknowledged that “Atiku will certainly win the ADC primary and clinch the presidential ticket, but he cannot win the presidential election on that platform.”
“The former vice president’s sense of judgment is always wrong. What he is doing now is messing up his political credentials,” the PDP chieftain stated in a recent interaction with journalists in Lagos.
According to him, many defectors to the ADC would soon realise their mistake and return to the PDP fold.
NEC Meeting
Commenting further on the development within the PDP, Pearse declared that the just-concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja has cleared all doubts about the strength and unity of the party.
Pearse, a former member of the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and convener of the Reset Lagos PDP group, said the successful NEC meeting signals a major turnaround for the PDP.
“Nothing is wrong with PDP. PDP does not have the problems many other political parties have. PDP is founded on a very strong foundation,” He affirmed.
Pearse likened the party’s internal disagreements to misunderstandings in a marriage, stating, “Just like in a marriage, there can be some issues that must be resolved. If you jump out of this marriage, do you know what you will encounter in the other one you want to get into? Things may go far worse and even be catastrophic.
“We have held our NEC meeting, and everything points to the fact that PDP is well. We are Democrats; we do not appoint leaders like the other political party, we elect them. PDP is moving on, and everything is in order. We are looking good. PDP is back already. Those leaving PDP are confused, as they just took the wrong step.”
Zoning Presidency to South a Masterstroke
Commenting on the party’s zoning of its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, Pearse described it as “a game changer.”
“This is the only way to defeat incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Pearse noted.
Naija News reports that the PDP concluded its 101st NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday, fixing November 15 and 16 as dates for its national elective convention, scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The meeting, attended by party stakeholders, reportedly addressed key internal reforms and laid strategic groundwork for the 2027 general elections.
Pearse’s comments come as the PDP seeks to reposition itself as a credible alternative to the ruling APC, amid defections, internal power plays, and the search for a winning coalition in the next electoral cycle.
