The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) directives for bank employees to declare their assets has been condemned by the Publisher of the Dele Momodu Ovation, Dele Momodu.
Naija News reports that the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Tuesday, March 16 ordered all bank workers to declare their assets latest June 1, 2021.
The newly appointed EFCC boss gave the directive while speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday.
He stated that the new directive which is pursuant to the Bank Employees, ETC. (Declaration of Assets) Act 1986, is part of measures to sanitise the nation’s financial system and block some of the loopholes currently being exploited by unscrupulous players in the sector to undermine the Nigerian economy through money laundering and illicit financial flows.
Reacting to the development, Momodu took to his social media page, Twitter precisely to ask if the country is currently under a military regime.
The former presidential candidate suggested that the declaration of assets should start with government agencies and politicians, stating that banks belong largely to the private sector.
His tweet reads: “Are we in a military regime? Why not start with government agencies and politicians? Banks belong largely to the private sector… “EFCC orders bank workers to declare assets sets June 1 deadline.”
