The presidency has submitted that the public declaration by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to fight corruption is just an attempt to hoodwink Nigerians and get their votes for the 2027 election.
The presidency described Atiku as a well-known corrupt public official who is desperate to win the presidency.
A short statement on Sunday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that despite the video, people find it difficult to believe that Atiku would make such a vow.
He reminded Atiku that it is wrong to make false vows, and anyone who indulges in such behaviour would incur the wrath of God.
According to the presidential media aide, Nigerians are well aware of Atiku’s past.
“A video of ex-VP Atiku Abubakar swearing in Allah’s name to punish corrupt people has been trending. The reason is not far-fetched: people found it incredible that Atiku, a well-known corrupt public official, would make such a vow.
“In the desperation of Atiku to become president, there is nothing he will not say to hoodwink people, as if we have no memory of the past.
“One thing that every Muslim knows is that he who invokes God and makes false vows will undoubtedly incur the wrath of God. There are consequences for such act,” Onanuga wrote.
Naija News reports that in a post via his 𝕏 handle, Atiku, while addressing a group of people in the Hausa language, vowed to punish anybody engaged in corruption if he is elected president.
