Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that new signing Viktor Gyokeres could feature in Thursday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur but only if the club’s medical team clears him.
Naija News reports that Viktor Gyokeres, 27, arrived from Sporting CP on July 26 and has since been involved in limited training sessions with the Gunners.
The Swedish striker, who joined in a big-money move to bolster Arsenal’s attacking line, has already been spotted working on shooting drills at London Colney.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the clash with Spurs, Arteta gave a cautious update on the forward’s condition.
“He has only done today’s session and yesterday very little,” Arteta said. “We are going to assess tonight where he is. If the medical staff are pleased with his condition, it is possible.”
Supporters are eager to see Gyokeres in action, especially with growing excitement about how he might link up with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard in the upcoming Premier League season.
Meanwhile, in Italy, Nigerian international Ademola Lookman is reportedly eager to leave Atalanta this summer.
According to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, sources close to the player confirmed that his representatives formally communicated his decision to the club on Tuesday following a concrete €42 million bid, plus €3 million in add-ons, from Inter Milan.
However, Atalanta remain firm, valuing the Super Eagles winger at €50 million and have not yet approved the transfer.
Elsewhere, Lookman’s international teammate Victor Osimhen is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday ahead of a medical with Turkish champions Galatasaray on Thursday.
The move could make Álvaro Morata leave Galatasaray this summer. The Spanish striker, who was absent from training on Tuesday, is reportedly waiting to finalise a transfer to Serie A newcomers Como.
Romano adds that Morata “has no intention to stay at Galatasaray” and is determined to make the switch to Italy.
