Special Adviser on Media to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, has called on the police to arrest the state’s former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu and Edo Central Senator, Monday Okpebholo, for violent conduct and defiling police order.
Crusoe Osagie said the former deputy governor of Edo State and Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, caused chaos that led to the death of a police officer in the state on Thursday.
In an interview on Friday, on Arise TV, Osagie said Philip Shaibu and Senator Monday Okpebholo disregarded the Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, order not to parade themselves in his motorcade, in Benin.
He said Shaibu and Okpebholo defied the order and entered the city with their thugs, guns blazing which led to the death of a police officer.
Osagie said, “It is unfortunate what happened in Benin yesterday (Thursday), but we need to let the public know what happened. Yesterday when Philip and Okpebholo arrived at the airport, the commissioner of Police met them at the arrival lounge and showed them the stay of execution; and showed them that the matter is on appeal.
“He told them they need to go into the city peacefully. They don’t need to go into the city with motorcade. They disobeyed the police commissioner. They were with Tony Kabaka, a notorious figure, and were shooting sporadically, in the process an innocent police officer was gunned down.
“Essentially, this man defiled the police, got into town gun blazing, killed a policeman and is still ground standing. We are calling on the police to arrest Shaibu. He is a civilian. He no longer has immunity.”
