APC Wins Chairmanship Seat In Fubara’s LGA

The chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, Barr. James A. James has been declared the winner of Saturday’s local government poll.

Announcing the outcome on Sunday, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Michael Odey, said James secured 37,822 votes to emerge victorious.

“The APC candidate, Barr. James A. James, having scored the highest number of lawful votes, is hereby returned elected as chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area,” Odey stated.

Conspicuously absent during the exercise was the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who hails from the LGA.

As at the close of voting, Fubara had not turned up at his Ward 5, Unit polling station, forcing many of his supporters and kinsmen, who had waited for hours, to leave in disappointment.

Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly remain suspended from office following the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu amid a deepening political crisis in the state.

The President subsequently appointed the retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, pending the resolution of the crisis.
