The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that it has registered more than one million members across Katsina State, marking a significant boost for the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s 2023 governorship candidate in the state, Ibrahim Aminu-Trader, disclosed this on Wednesday on the sidelines of an ADC stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina.

Aminu-Trader described the development as evidence of the party’s growing influence, noting that the massive registration exercise cut across all 34 local government areas of the state and attracted youths, women and defectors from other political parties.

According to him, the influx of new members has been so overwhelming that membership cards have been exhausted.

“So far, we have recorded over one million registrations, and our membership cards have finished,” he said.

He added that the state leadership of the party was already making efforts to secure additional membership cards to accommodate more prospective members before the 2027 polls.

“The registration of over one million members within a short period is a clear indication that the people of Katsina State are ready for change. In a short time, we are confident of registering between three and four million members,” Aminu-Trader said.

The ADC chieftain, who is also eyeing the party’s governorship ticket in 2027, said his political ambition is driven by a commitment to addressing insecurity, poverty, unemployment and economic challenges facing the state.

Describing himself as a grassroots politician, he assured supporters that the party would continue to pursue its objectives through peaceful and democratic means, while urging members to remain law-abiding.
