The spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has stated that delegates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will be the ones to settle the purported ‘fight’ among opposition leaders
Naija News understands that Ibe stated this while speaking during an interview with Trust TV.
Recall that opposition politicians led by the former Vice President launched a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, adopting the ADC.
Former Senate President David Mark emerged as the new National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary of the ADC.
The adoption of the ADC by the opposition coalition had in attendance prominent figures across party lines. Among those present were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed, former Senate President David Mark, former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Attorney General Abubakar Malami.
Days after the launch, Amaechi and Obi openly declared their intention to contest on the ADC platform.
Speculation emerged that Atiku is also planning to contest for presidency in 2027, however, he has yet to openly declare his ambition.
Speaking on reports of a possible implosion over the ADC’s ticket, Paul Ibe said leaders of the party had already reached an understanding on the need to make sacrifices before launching the coalition.
He said, “Between what Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Amaechi says (sic), is ultimately, democracy has worked. It is the delegates of the party, whether it is a direct or indirect primary, they are the ones who are going to determine the fate of these leaders. All of these two fighting or three fighting will be settled by the delegates.”
“Maybe it’s because of the fact that we lost the essence of what democracy is all about because of what Tinubu and his administration has been doing. Everybody is being railroaded into a one-party state. It’s about choice, people have the right to choose,” Ibe said.
According to him, supporters should campaign for their candidates and allow the delegates to do what the constitution of the party has provided.
