No fewer than five people were killed and 16 others sustained various degrees of injury in Gboko area of Benue State when a vehicle lost control and ran into people at a road market.
An eyewitness Mr. Tersoo Akuhwa told Naija News that the incident occurred around 9pm on Tuesday when the driver of the vehicle lost control after having brake failure at the front of Temperance hotel, Akaajime within Gboko town.
“The vehicle was coming from Gboko town to Mkar, in Gboko local government area of Benue state when the incident happened at Akaajime around 9pm
“Five people were killed on the spot, and 16 others sustained injuries. They are receiving treatment at private hospitals here in Gboko.
“There are 12 injured people at St. Joseph and four others at Atuna hospitals in Gboko receiving treatment”.
Meanwhile, the council chairman of Gboko local government, James Kachina also confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Wednesday.
The council boss said, he has in the company of the leader of Gboko local government legislative house, Peters Maaki, visited the two hospitals where the injured persons are receiving treatment.
