ABUJA COUNTRY CLUB ELECTS NEW LEADERS, IFEDAYO AKINDOJU, DICKSON AKOH EMERGES, SET FOR INNOVATIONS

The foremost elitist Recreational and Sports Club in the Federal Capital Territory, the Abuja Country Club, has successfully held its Annual General Meeting to elect new Leadership to run the affairs of the Club.

The President of the Nigerian Lawn Tennis Federation, Mr. Ifedayo Akindoju emerged as the new President of the Club, while the National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, who is also the Board of Trustees Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Prof. Dickson A.O. Akoh, was elected as the new Social / Publicity Secretary.

In an interview with the Press after the Elections, the new President pointed out the need for Sports Clubs across the Country to target at discovering young talents towards Youth and Sports Development in Nigeria.

Mr. Akindoju said the Abuja Country Club, established in 1980, had many Coaches, and was not just for recreation, but for Youth Empowerment.

He further stated that some Members of the Club had participated and won international tournaments.

The immediate Past President, Sir Alex Osakwe, speaking on Security situation in the Country, said it was painful that Nigerians were being killed and called for the establishment of State Police.

He added that individuals should not own Oil Blocks, but should be given to State Government to boost their Economies. Sir Osakwe, who had been the President for over four years, described his experience as pleasurable.

The Board of Trustees Chairman of the Club, His Royal Highness Eze Ikwunna Ukwu said before being elected, the executive members had been doing a lot and urged them to do more for the benefit of Nembers, FCT and the Nation in general.

On his part, the new Social Secretary, Prof. Dickson A.O. Akoh, thanked the past leadership for sustaining Objectives of the Club and affording him the opportunity to serve the Club.

He stated that the responsibility of the Social Secretary who doubles as Publicity Officer, entails image building and promotional programming to keep the Club Socially alive with Activities cutting across Entertainment, Recreational and even Business Innovations.

He promised to bring his long years of experience in Leadership and Development Planning to bear in taking the Club to greater heights, especially in Membership Drive among the Young People of the Country resident in Abuja and beyond.
