Katsina State has recorded another major milestone in its quest for improved electricity supply as the Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commissioned the newly completed 120 MVA, 132/33 kV Transmission Substation in Kankia Local Government Area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, the Minister described the project as a key component of the Federal Government’s strategic efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national grid and expand electricity transmission capacity across the country.
He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to delivering critical power infrastructure that will ensure electricity generated across the country is efficiently transmitted to homes, businesses and industries.
Governor Dikko Radda hailed the completion of the substation as a landmark investment in Katsina’s power infrastructure, noting that the facility, equipped with two 60MVA transformers with a combined capacity of 120MVA, will significantly reinforce the state’s transmission network and enable greater volumes of electricity to reach consumers.
Radda stressed that reliable electricity remains the backbone of economic growth, industrialisation and improved public service delivery, adding that the project will complement Katsina’s expanding renewable energy programme while boosting key sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, commerce, education and healthcare.

Governor Radda expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the project and commended the Minister of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria for ensuring its successful completion.
He also urged residents of the host community to safeguard the facility against vandalism, describing it as a strategic national asset that will serve present and future generations.
