The Niger State Government says it is determined to position the state as one of Nigeria’s leading solar power-generating states, with a target of achieving one gigawatt of solar energy capacity by 2030.

Governor Umaru Bago stated this when he received a delegation from the ALDESA Group, a subsidiary of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) specialising in renewable energy development.

The Governor disclosed that the state government has secured additional funding for the establishment of another 200-megawatt solar power project as part of efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity.

According to him, the bidding process for the project has already commenced, with bids opened for interested companies.

Governor Bago called on CCECC to formally submit its bid for consideration, assuring the company that all submissions would be evaluated in line with the state government’s procurement process.

Earlier, the Executive Director of CCECC, Mr. Austin Qi, made a presentation highlighting the company’s renewable energy projects in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

Qi said the company’s operations are anchored on safety, quality and sustainability, while reaffirming CCECC’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Niger State Government towards achieving sustainable development in the state.
