The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has constituted a Special Committee on Students and Schools Safety in response to the growing security challenges and attacks affecting Schools and Nigerian Students across the Country.
The Association, in a letter dated August 30, 2026, pronounced the appointment of Comrade Bamidele Danielson Akpan, a former NANS President, as the Chairman of the Committee.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the NANS National President, Dist. Babatunde Akinteye Afeez, the incumbent Grand Commander of the Nigerian Students, GCNS.
According to the letter, the establishment of the committee was necessitated by what the student body described as the “incessant attacks on Schools and Nigerian Students, requiring a change in approach to the safety and protection of Students”.
The current NANS President stated that Comr. Akpan was selected for the responsibility based on his wealth of experience and demonstrated concern for the safety of Nigerian Students and the country in general.
The President went further to express confidence that Akpan’s experience and leadership qualities would contribute significantly to efforts aimed at strengthening the protection of Students and Educational Institutions all over the Federation.
The newly constituted Committee is expected to commence operations immediately and focus on issues surrounding Student Safety, School Security, and the Protection of Academic Facilities amid increasing spate of attacks and insecurity in nation’s institutions.
While congratulating the Former President on his appointment, Comr. Afeez expressed appreciation for his willingness to serve in the new capacity.
