The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the apex umbrella body representing Nigerian Youth, has continued to pursue initiatives aimed at fostering Peace and Unity of the body, towards sustainable Youth Development across the country.
Charged by the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, and in furtherance of its mandate to strengthen cohesion within the Council and among Youth Stakeholders nationwide, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NYCN has, on 4th June, 2026 inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted virtually by Barr. Buhari Ibrahim Shehu, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, as part of ongoing efforts to promote harmony, resolve disputes, and facilitate the restoration of lasting peace within the Council.
The National Reconciliation Committee composes of eminent leaders and critical stakeholders of repute, experience, integrity who are committed to promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and unity among all factions and interest groups within the National Youth Council of Nigeria. Alhaji Comrade Kaka Alkali Imam is to serve as the Chairman and Comrade Yusuf Kelani as Secretary.
During the inauguration, Barr. Buhari Ibrahim Shehu thanked the Honourable Minister for Youth Development and emphasized the importance of reconciliation as a critical component of the ongoing reform and repositioning process of the NYCN. He noted that the Council’s effectiveness as the voice of Nigerian youths depends largely on its unity, stability, and ability to work collectively towards common goals.
The IMC Chairman charged the Committee to discharge its responsibilities with fairness, impartiality, integrity, and a deep sense of patriotism. He stressed that the Committee should engage all stakeholders through consultations, mediation, and confidence-building measures aimed at resolving disputes and fostering mutual understanding.
Barr. Shehu further expressed confidence in the leadership capacity, experience, and commitment of Alhaji Comrade Kaka Alkali Imam and Comrade Yusuf Kelani to successfully lead the Committee towards achieving its objectives.
In his acceptance remarks, Alhaji Comrade Kaka Alkali Imam expressed gratitude to the Interim Management Committee for the confidence reposed in him and the members of the Committee. He pledged to work diligently and inclusively to reconcile all aggrieved parties and strengthen the unity of the Council.
He reiterated that the Committee would adopt dialogue, consultation, and mutual respect as guiding principles in carrying out its assignment. He called on all youth leaders and stakeholders to cooperate with the Committee in the interest of the Council and the development of Nigerian youths.
The inauguration of the National Reconciliation Committee marks a significant milestone in the efforts to restore unity, stability, and confidence within the National Youth Council of Nigeria. Under the leadership of Alhaji Comrade Kaka Alkali Imam as Chairman and Comrade Yusuf Kelani as Secretary, the Committee is expected to play a pivotal role in healing divisions, promoting reconciliation, and laying a solid foundation for a stronger and more united NYCN.
The event reaffirmed the commitment of the Interim Management Committee, under the leadership of Barr. Buhari Ibrahim Shehu, to reposition the National Youth Council of Nigeria as a credible, inclusive, and effective platform for advancing the interests and aspirations of Nigerian youths.
In attendance at the virtual inauguration were the Chief of Staff to the Honourable Minister for Youth Development and members of the Interim Management Committee of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, who commended the initiative and expressed optimism that the Committee would foster lasting peace, unity, and stability within the Council.
