The former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu, has assured supporters that he has the capacity to defeat Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred successor, Senator Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada, if a free and fair primary election is conducted.

Speaking at a mega rally organised by his supporters in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the Director of Operations and Command in the ex-IGP’s governorship campaign organisation, Adams Useni, said Abubakar-Adamu enjoys widespread acceptance across the state.
A frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar-Adamu is calling on the party’s national leadership to ensure a transparent and credible primary process.

According to Useni, the former police chief remains confident of victory if the process is conducted fairly.

“There is going to be a primary election, and the ex-IGP Adamu will emerge victorious because the entire people of the state have accepted him,” he said.

He added: “We are here today in Karu. The people have shown love and support for the IGP. We are asking for free and fair democracy and genuine people’s participation.”

Useni further highlighted Abubakar-Adamu’s experience in the security sector, noting that his background would be instrumental in addressing insecurity in the state if elected governor.
“The former IGP has a strong background in the security sector, having risen to the highest rank. We believe he will help tackle insecurity when elected,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director of Contact and Mobilisation in the campaign, Isa Nathaniel, disclosed that more than 3,000 groups had indicated interest in organising rallies in support of the aspirant.

“They are here to show that the retired IGP is the man to beat. With him as governor, he will work with the President to ensure a safer Nasarawa State,” Nathaniel said.

He maintained that Governor Sule’s endorsement of Senator Aliyu-Wadada reflects a personal opinion that does not bind other members of the APC.

He expressed confidence that party members would turn out in large numbers during the primaries to support Abubakar-Adamu.
