Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has pledged to transform the Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi state into one of the safest local governments in Nigeria if elected chairman.

Umahi made the promise after emerging as the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara LGA following the party’s primary election held on Monday.

Addressing supporters after he was declared winner, he assured residents that his administration would be driven by ambitious but practical development plans, with a strong focus on security, youth empowerment, infrastructure and agriculture.

“We will work with security personnel to ensure that Ohaozara is extremely safe. By the special grace of God, by the time our government is done, Ohaozara will be regarded as one of the safest local governments in the entire Nigeria,” he said.

Umahi disclosed that his first year in office would be dedicated to empowering young people and accelerating infrastructure development across the local government. He said road construction would be prioritised, particularly routes linking communities to markets and farmlands, to boost economic activities.

He said, “I want to assure the people of Ohaozara that we have big plans and we will not disappoint this support. Our first year is going to be dedicated to youth empowerment and infrastructure development as well as agricultural development. We target to do more roads, including but not limited to roads that are leading to the market spaces, to the farmland.

“We will develop cottage agricultural centers. We will implement mechanised farming and we will work with the professionals to ensure that the agricultural sector of the local government is properly equipped and developed. We will implement and initiate the use of concrete roads to ensure that we have good, durable concrete roads that will last more than 50 years and above. It will provide our people with good access and it will increase the economic development of our society.”
