The United States of America is reportedly investigating a serving Nigerian senator from the South-East geopolitical zone over the alleged sale of Venezuelan crude oil to China and other countries, valued at $7.6 billion.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the lawmaker described as an ally of the ousted Venezuelan leader, Nicolás Maduro is alleged to have facilitated the movement of vessels used in transporting the crude oil involved in the transaction.

A source disclosed that the senator has been making frequent trips to Dubai since late last year in connection with the deal. The source further stated that U.S. authorities are currently investigating the transaction, while efforts are reportedly underway to recover approximately $4.6 billion of the funds and return them to Venezuela.

“This Nigerian senator has been frequently travelling to Dubai since late last year over the $7.6 billion oil deal. The money was traced to his account in Russia, China, UAE and others. The United States is currently investigating the transaction, while efforts are ongoing to recover about $4.6 billion of the funds and return it to Venezuela,” the source said.

Recall that U.S. forces recently took Nicolás Maduro and his wife from a compound in Caracas. The former Venezuelan president has since appeared before a court in New York, where he pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges filed by the United States government.
