The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has confirmed Gabon’s Pierre Ghislain Atcho as the centre referee for the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup qualifying clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
Atcho, regarded as one of Africa’s rising refereeing figures, will be supported by an all-Gabonese team.
Boris Marlaise Ditsoga will serve as assistant referee one, while Amos Abeigne Ndong has been named assistant referee two. Cregue Fleury Moukagni completes the crew as the fourth official.
In addition to the Gabonese officiating team, FIFA also appointed the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Olivier Safari Kabene as referee assessor. Ugandan official Mike Letti will take charge as match commissioner.
The decisive matchday eight fixture is scheduled to take place next Tuesday, September 9, at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Both sides head into the clash knowing what is at stake, with valuable points needed to strengthen their push for a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles, who have had a mixed campaign so far, will be hoping to bounce back strongly, while Bafana Bafana, buoyed by home support, will be eager to make a statement against their long-time rivals.
Ahead of the South Africa clash, the Super Eagles have a date with Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. The match is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 6.
