NSCDC Deploys 20,850 Personnel For Saturday’s By-Elections

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 20,850 personnel to provide security and protect critical national assets during Saturday’s by-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states.

In a statement on Friday in Abuja, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Afolabi, said the deployment was ordered by the Commandant-General of the corps, Ahmed Audi.

According to him, the personnel were mobilised to guarantee a hitch-free electoral process, safeguard election materials, protect officials, and monitor the exercise in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, which serves as the lead agency for election security.

The by-elections, to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will take place in Anambra, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Taraba, Kogi, Kano, Niger, and other affected states.

“You are hereby directed to work in synergy with relevant sister security agencies within Anambra, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Taraba, Kogi, Kano, Niger and all states where the by-election would be held,” Audi directed the 12 state commandants.

The Commandant-General urged officers to maintain professionalism, respect the fundamental human rights of citizens, and ensure a peaceful electoral process.

He also called on eligible voters to come out en masse to exercise their franchise.

“We urge voters to come out massively to vote for the candidates of their choice as a symbol of their franchise and fundamental rights,” Audi said.
