Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola-Salako has raised concerns over the exclusion of young people in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In an interview with Behind The Fame TV, she said Tinubu did not follow the original plan, which she believed was intended to be more youth-oriented.
Naija News reports that she stressed that involvement in projects gives people insight into how they are progressing, but young people are not being carried along in decision-making.
Daramola said that past presidents all followed a common pattern of removing fuel subsidies which she said has contributed to rising fuel and food prices.
She argued that involving youth in governance could allow them to contribute ideas and understand policy developments better.
Although she acknowledged efforts by Seyi Tinubu to reach out to young people, Daramola maintained that the administration falls short of expectations for youth inclusion.
She said: “He didn’t follow the plan. The truth of the matter is, we thought that it was going to be youth-oriented more. Let me tell you something: if you are involved in something, you will know how it’s going, when it’s good or bad.
“Go and check antecedents. Some past presidents are still receiving accolades.
“So the truth of the matter is, this is not a youth-inclusive government. I know that his son is trying to cut across, he’s trying his best, fine. But as far as I am concerned, it’s not like I regret working for him. But this is not the plan. The plan was to carry as much youth as possible. So if there’s a problem, we know where it’s coming from.
“One thing, let me ask you a question. The common thing that all the presidents had was the removal of fuel subsidies. They all removed fuel subsidy. That’s what spoilt everything because that’s what is making everything expensive fuel, food. So that was the constant thing that they all had.
“Now, if you involve people, the youths, and tell them how things are going, then at the end of the day, you try to ask, we will now bring our idea to the table. But nobody is being… we are not being carried along. We are just hearing this happening. So we are not being carried along.”
