Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has declared himself the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Naija News reports that Bago made the declaration on Tuesday while speaking in Minna, the state capital.
The governor also announced that the state would serve as the headquarters of Tinubu’s campaign.
While taking a swipe at those agitating for a northern candidate ahead of the 2027 election, Bago maintained that the North and South have an unwritten understanding on the power-sharing formula.
He said, “I’m now the self-imposed Director General of the Tinubu campaign for 2027, and Niger State is the campaign headquarters for Asiwaju 2027.
“We are Nigerians and we love Nigeria. There is an unwritten understanding in Nigeria for power to rotate between the North and the South. This has brought peace to this country.
“We completed the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and Asiwaju is just in his second year.”
Meanwhile, Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, says his friendship with President Tinubu spans over two decades and will not be undermined by political affiliations.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday shortly after a closed-door meeting with the President at the State House, Soludo described their discussion as “quite pleasant” and noted that Tinubu is in “robust health and high spirits.”
Soludo said, “I have no apologies about it. President Tinubu is my friend. He has been my friend for 22 years now and counting, so you don’t deny your friend.
“I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the areas of the economy and structural reforms. We are taking the right steps, and we need to stay the course.”
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governor stated that his support for Tinubu stems from a broader ideological conviction that progressive parties should collaborate.
