The newly appointed Assistant Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan, Oyo State, Akin Olowokere, on Monday morning, slumped and died during a training session.
Naija News reports that Olowokere, a former player and later tactician with Sunshine Stars of Akure, was unveiled only recently as part of the Oluyole Warriors’ new technical crew following the exit of the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching team.
Eyewitnesses who spoke with Punch on the incident, in Ibadan, said that the soft-spoken coach “slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session and was rushed to the hospital.”
“He was, however, confirmed dead at the hospital where he was rushed to,” a source said.
It was gathered that he collapsed while actively involved in the training drills, prompting immediate medical attention before being taken to an undisclosed hospital.
Until his appointment at 3SC, Olowokere had been a regular face with Sunshine Stars as a player for several years before transitioning into a coaching role.
He previously served as an assistant coach under head coach Edith Agoye, earning a reputation as a dedicated and humble figure in football.
As of press time, there was no official statement from the club on the cause of death.
