The Federal Government of Nigeria has organised a live concert in honour of the Super Falcons of Nigeria to celebrate their victory over Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.
According to Daily Post, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed that the concert, slated for 7 p.m. tonight, July 28, at Eagle Square in Abuja, will feature performances by some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars. The event is expected to draw an enthusiastic crowd eager to celebrate the nation’s heroines.
Earlier today, the Super Falcons, who edged out the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic showdown at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday night, returned home to a hero’s welcome.
They landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, earlier today, where they were greeted by jubilant fans and high-ranking dignitaries including Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Uba Sani of Kano, and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara.
Chants, banners, and the rhythm of drums filled the air as supporters gathered in droves to catch a glimpse of the triumphant squad.
As part of the ongoing celebration, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, earlier today.
The President conferred national honours on the players, bestowing each of them with the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In addition to the honours, President Tinubu announced substantial cash rewards for their outstanding performance. Each of the 24 players will receive the Naira equivalent of $100,000, while members of the technical crew will be awarded $50,000 each.
