Two Former Governors, Others Rally Support For ADC Ahead Of Edo By-Elections

ADC Coalition Targets APC Strongholds In Kaduna, Kogi Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Prominent political figures in Edo State, including two former governors, John Odigie-Oyegun and Senator Oserhiemen Osunbor, have thrown their weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring the party’s readiness to win the upcoming August 16 by-elections in Edo and mount a strong challenge in the 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that the declaration was made during a high-level stakeholders meeting of the ADC held at the residence of Odigie-Oyegun in Benin City.

Other notable political figures present at the gathering include former Senate Chief Whip Rowland Owie, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, and Hon. Sergius Ogun, a former member of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at the meeting, Owie disclosed that the entire membership of the political bloc known as the League of Democrats had agreed to join the ADC.

“We have been holding meetings every Thursday for the past three months. Every member of the League of Democrats has agreed to become a member of the ADC,” he said.

Owie declared that the party is ready to lead the country and urged all Nigerians to join the movement.

“ADC will lead Nigeria, we are ready, and I appeal to all of you to join,” he added.

Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Oyegun said the gathering was organised to brief party leaders on recent developments and formally welcome new groups from other political platforms into the fold.

He also announced the formation of a mobilisation committee to drive new membership registrations across the state and country.

“This is in addition to getting messages, carrying out efficient membership registration all over, in a way that is effective and confirmed,” Oyegun said.

He added that another committee would work closely with the existing ADC state executive to coordinate party activities.

“We are fresh blood. We don’t want to disturb those who have served the party. In a few days, we will do the fantastic convert,” he said confidently.

Also speaking, Osunbor described the meeting as a “clarion call” for Nigerians to rally behind a coalition that represents transparency and good governance.

“There are people of integrity in ADC who will ensure a change in the system of governance in Nigeria,” he noted.
