NPFL: Evans Ogenyi Resumes Work At Pillars, Ogunbote Confirms Shooting Stars Exit

Evans Ogenyi

Evans Ogenyi has resumed duties as the new technical adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Kano Pillars.

Evans Ogenyi took charge of the team’s training session on Thursday at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, a day after his appointment was officially confirmed.

Ogenyi replaces Usman Abdallah, who left the club following the end of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

This marks a return to familiar territory for Ogenyi, who previously led Kano Pillars to promotion back to the NPFL in 2023.

He has also had spells with Warri Wolves, Lobi Stars, and recently served as assistant coach at Rivers United.

In a separate development, veteran tactician Gbenga Ogunbote has confirmed his departure from Shooting Stars after three years in charge.

“My time with Shooting Stars has officially come to an end. I want to thank the fans, my players, technical crew, backroom staff, and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. Your love never went unnoticed,” Ogunbote wrote on 𝕏.

Shooting Stars also acknowledged his exit in an official statement: “We say goodbye to Coach Gbenga Ogunbote as he steps down as Technical Adviser of Shooting Stars SC. Thank you for the moments, the passion, and the memories. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter.”
